A Red Tide harmful algal bloom has been moving up the West coast of Florida, and it is beginning to enter Sarasota Bay.
Red tide events have the potential to cause large scale adverse impacts. They can effect fish and dolphins as well as sea birds, sea turtles, manatees, and people.
We will initiate supplemental purse seining activities soon to be able to closely monitor and describe changes in the fish community. We’ll be testing hypotheses generated by the severe red tides of 2005-2006.
