Sarasota Dolphin Research Program

Jessica Powell, BS, MS Candidate (University of South Florida)

I am a graduate student working with the Chicago Zoological Society’s Sarasota Dolphin Research Program, co-advised by Drs. Randy Wells and David Mann. My research focuses on depredation and fisheries interactions involving bottlenose dolphins in Sarasota Bay. I am investigating possible factors contributing to the increase in dolphins stealing from anglers, begging, and becoming entangled in monofilament fishing line. I grew up around the world, living in a total of twelve places including three different countries. I received my BS in Biology from Furman University in Greenville, SC and am currently pursuing my MS in Marine Science at the University of South Florida. My primary interests include human impacts on marine mammals and conservation science.
